Compare options, and say out loud what the number assumes.

The simulator earns its keep in the conversation before a budget is committed, where the alternative is competing assertions.
Compare options, not just one
Modeling one plan tells you whether it helps. Modeling two tells you which to choose, which is the decision actually in front of you. Model the option you favor and the obvious alternative, including doing nothing.
Pair it with effort
A larger modeled improvement is not automatically the better plan. Read the projected movement next to what the work involves, and the cheaper option frequently wins on the ratio.
State the assumption
When you present a simulated outcome, say plainly that it assumes the capability improvements land as described. A projection presented as a forecast is how a planning tool loses its credibility the first time reality differs.
